FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Greensboro College men’s golf team held on down the stretch to win the 2017 Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Invitational Sunday at the par-72 Royal Lakes Golf Club.

Greensboro held off Emory University, who finished four-strokes in second place, for the victory.

Grant Powell was the Pride’s top finisher a one-under-par after carding a 2-over-par over the final nine holes. Powell’s one-under par score placed him in a tie for ninth.

Luke Grogan finished one stroke behind Powell in a 14th-place tie, while Scott Campbell finished the 36-hole event in a 16th-place tie at one-over-par.

Jacob Neal also competed for the Greensboro, while Austin Coble participated as an individual.

“This was a great win for our team and our program,” Head Coach Jim Cantamessa. “This was a total team win as everyone supported each other down the stretch and all four of our top golfers finished in the top-25.

“This win is even more impressive considering the team played though torrential rain and high winds from Hurricane Nate.”

The Pride men’s golf team will return to action Oct. 23 when they open play at the O’Briant-Jensen Memorial Golf Tournament. The two-day event will be played at the Sedgefield Country Club Dye Course. For more information on Greensboro College men’s golf, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
