College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Takes 12th at Golfweek Invitational

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 313 in Tuesday’s final round and placed 12th at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational. Sophomore Zachary Evens was the Quakers’ top individual performer (11th) after shooting three-over 216 in the 54-hole tournament.

The event featured 14 teams ranked 23rd or higher in the current Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches’ Poll, including eight of the top-10 units.

Unranked St. Thomas (Minn.) University won the 18-team tourney by shooting 284-278-295-857 (+5). The Tommies finished seven strokes ahead of second-place Huntingdon College (287-285-292-864). Illinois Wesleyan University (865), Emory University (872) and Rhodes College (874) rounded out the top five.

Huntingdon’s Stephen Shepherd won medalist honors with three straight sub-par rounds. He shot 69-68-68-205 on the par-71, 6,598-yard Robert Trent Jones, Jr. layout. His three-under-par 68 marked Tuesday’s low score. Emory’s Keenan Hickton finished four strokes back in second with a 70-69-70-209 total. Opening-round co-leader Conner O’Neil of Illinois Wesleyan joined St. John’s (Minn.) University’s Sam Olson and Berry College’s Eddy Black in third place at 210 (-3).

The Quakers turned in their highest round of the season Tuesday as Guilford counted two scores in the 80s. Evens shot four-over 75 to pace Guilford’s individuals in 11th place. Rookie Jack Lee also shot 75 and shared 51st place among individuals at 225. Junior Josh Hill, who shot a career-low 66 Monday, shot 81 Tuesday and finished in a share of 46th place at 224. Guilford also counted Kell Graham’s 82 Tuesday, which left the sophomore in 72nd place at 233. Senior Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) placed 67th with a 73-75-84-232.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers, ranked sixth in Golfweek Poll, conclude the fall season by hosting the O’Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament at the Sedgefield Country Club-Dye Course next Monday and Tuesday (October 23-24).
