Elon Football Vaults Higher in National Rankings

ELON, N.C. – Now riding a six-game winning streak, the Elon University football team gained four spots to move to 10th in the STATS FCS Poll and picked up four places to climb to 11th in the FCS Coaches Poll this week. This marks Elon’s first top-10 ranking since the final week of September 2010.

Elon (6-1) earned a total of 2,555 points in the STATS rankings and sits between Samford (5-2) and South Dakota State (5-2).

Including Elon, the STATS poll ranks seven CAA Football teams this week. James Madison (7-0) continues to hold the top spot. Other league programs in the rankings are #13 Villanova (4-3), #17 New Hampshire (5-2), #19 Richmond (4-3), #22 Stony Brook (5-2) and #23 Delaware (5-2).

In the coaches poll, the Phoenix was awarded a total of 362 points. Just ahead of Elon is Wofford (6-1), while the Phoenix sits just ahead of Eastern Washington (5-3).

The coaches poll sees five conference programs ranked. JMU sits first, with Villanova, New Hampshire and Richmond occupying spots 15-17, respectively.

Elon will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28, with a 3:30 p.m. game at Villanova.
