Mark Goldsmith is now the former lacrosse coach at Northwest Guilford High School and he has been suspended from his teaching duties at the Guilford County School….Coach Goldsmith led the Northwest Guilford Vikings to the NCHSAA State Championship and also coached the Southeast Guilford Vikings to the lacrosse state championship….Coach Goldsmith came to Greensboro to coach the Guilford College Quakers lacrosse team back in the late 80’s and he was considered a true pioneer for developing lacrosse teams and players and for his teaching/coaching methods that he spread throughout the Triad….He ran top-notch programs and his teams won titles and I still remember the Van Hoover brothers from the Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church, when they played for Coach Goldsmith and they were part of that State Championship team at Southeast Guilford back in 2000.
Mark Goldsmith has a daughter Sammi Goldsmith and she was an outstanding girls basketball player and lacrosse champion at Bishop McGuinness….Coach Goldsmith’s son Jay played soccer and lacrosse and he was part of that state championship lacrosse team at Northwest Guilford back in 2011….Jay Goldsmith was one of the top high school lacrosse athletes to ever come out of North Carolina and later became a coach and was helping his dad at Northwest during one stage of his career….
Mark Goldsmith did so much with lacrosse, but he was also a very accomplished high school basketball referee and he did that for many years until a heart attack about two year back, curtailed his basketball work….I have seen him at so many high school basketball games over the years, I can’t even begin to count the number…
Mark Goldsmith made a very strong transition for the college level to the high school level and his success was geared towards the kids he coached and towards his children in his family….The heart attack he had about two back, nearly took him out, but he fought back and now we will have to wait and see which way this current situation will take him…

Here is just a little bit of the good stuff we found on Sammi Goldsmith while she was playing basketball and lacrosse at Bishop McGuinness High School and in college basketball at Lynchburg College(Lynchburg, Virginia), she was named on of the top guards in all of DIII Women’s College Basketball….Quite a bit of talent with Sammi, Jay and others in the Goldsmith family and we always liked and respected those Goldsmith kids, real hard workers that played and worked to be the best….

With memories of a state basketball championship still fresh in her mind, Sammi Goldsmith stepped onto a field for her first high school lacrosse match and promptly scored four goals.
But it was a little more than beginner’s luck for Goldsmith, a junior who is better known for helping the Bishop McGuinness girls win the past three NCHSAA 1-A basketball titles. Northwest Guilford recently won the NCHSAA boys lacrosse championship. Sammi’s dad, Mark, coached Northwest, and her brother Jay was the MVP of the championship game.
Sammi Goldsmith said she always played lacrosse with her brother and competed in recreational leagues before AAU basketball took center stage. But as soon as talk about girls lacrosse at McGuinness surfaced, Goldsmith knew she would join the team.
“When a team was being formed, I definitely wanted to play,” she said. “If I had gone to any other school, that’s a sport I definitely would have played.”
She did well, recording 56 goals and 14 assists for a team that finished 13-3 in its first season.
