Elon Quartet Receives All-League Accolades at CAA Cross Country Championships

ELON, N.C. – Four members of the Elon University men’s and women’s cross country programs received all-league accolades as the Phoenix hosted the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning, Oct. 28, at the Elon cross country course.

Senior Brigid Brennan led the Phoenix women again as she finished eighth in the women’s 6K race to earn All-CAA honors for the first time. Junior Coralea Geraniotis and sophomore Melissa Anastasakis received all-league accolades for the second straight season after finishing ninth and 11th, respectively.

In the men’s 8K race, Nick Ciolkowski earned All-CAA honors for the third consecutive season as the Fairport, N.Y., native was fourth in the race. The reigning two-time defending CAA individual champion, Ciolkowski fell short of his attempt to three-peat as medalist honors went to JP Trojan of William & Mary.

Both the Phoenix men’s and women’s teams finished third in their respective races at the meet. James Madison won the women’s race, snapping William & Mary’s six-year reign as the Dukes finished with 26 points. The Tribe women was the runner-up with 73 points as the Phoenix was just seven points shy of second with 80. Delaware (103), Northeastern (122), College of Charleston (138), Towson (180), Hofstra (220) and UNCW (240) rounded out the team scores.

William & Mary won its 17th straight meet title on the men’s side as the Tribe men posted 23 points. Northeastern was second with 59 points followed by the Phoenix with 93. College of Charleston (98), Hofstra (133) and UNCW (143) concluded the team scores for the men.

Women’s Recap
Brennan clocked a time of 21:44.68 in the women’s 6K while Geraniotis was the next Phoenix runner to cross the line with her time of 21:49.38. Anastasakis ran a time of 21:57.56 to better her individual place from last season.

Senior Corey Weiss was 16th in the race with her time of 22:11.08 near the pack for the top-three for the Phoenix. Junior Chelsea Smith was the fifth runner across the line for Elon with her time of 22:57.09. Rookie Rachael Wesolowski was 57th and a time of 23:58.43 followed by Sami King at 60th and her time of 24:11.62.

Emily Smith (64th, 24:18.62), Abby Reimer (72nd, 25:12.89), Lauren Lynch (73rd, 25:13.53) and Bridget Kanaley (76th, 25:27.57) also competed for the Phoenix.

Men’s Recap
Ciolkowski ran a time of 25:12.59 in only his second meet of the season. Michael Germinario was next for the Phoenix with his time of 26:39.66 and 21st while Colton Lawson was next for the maroon and gold men with 26:43.42 in 23rd. Richie Kasper earned a top-25 finish with his time of 26:47.61 while Greg Paugh (32nd, 27:13.81) and Josh Kruppa (38th, 27:48.34) rounded out the competition for the Phoenix men.
