Elon Women’s Basketball Ranks No. 10 in Preseason CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Poll

ELON, N.C. – After finishing third in the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season, Elon University has checked in at No. 10 in the first edition of the 2017-18 poll.

At No. 10, Elon is one of six teams in the Top 10 that went to the 2017 NCAA Tournament in March. Quinnipiac, a No. 12 seed in last year’s tournament that upset fifth-seeded Marquette and fourth-seeded Miami on the way to the Sweet 16, tops the poll with 28 of the 31 first-place votes. Gonzaga, Drake, Green Bay and South Dakota State round out the Top 5. Gonzaga, Green Bay and Central Michigan (No. 9) each also received one first-place vote.

Elon is also one of two teams from the CAA to rank in the Top 25. James Madison checks in at No. 6. The Dukes and Phoenix were selected, respectively, as the top two finishers in the CAA in the release last month’s preseason poll. William & Mary received 13 votes in the CollegeInsider.com poll and Drexel garnered 12.

The Phoenix will start its 2017-18 campaign on Sunday, Nov. 5, with a 5:30 p.m. exhibition in Alumni Gym against Anderson. The regular season is slated to start Friday, Nov. 10, with a 7 p.m. tip against Winthrop in Alumni Gym.
