GREENSBORO, N.C. – Carlos Barragan was named USA South Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year, while Greensboro placed six players on the All-Conference teams, the conference announced Wednesday.

Barragan and Cole Watkins earned first-team honors, while Jordy Briceno and Ryan Mule were named to the second-team. Jared Heller was tabbed to the honorable mention team.

“I am very proud and happy we had six guys recognized by the USA South for All-Conference honors,” Head Coach Tony Falvino said. “It’s great to have six young men highlighted.

“I believe it has been a team effort this year and we have plenty of players, along with the six recognized, who have served Greensboro College honorably this season.”

Barragan, a junior midfielder from Winter Garden, Fla., becomes just the third Greensboro College men’s soccer player to be named USA South Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in their career, joining Greensboro College Hall of Famer Duncan Edwards and his head coach Tony Falvino.

Entering the USA South semifinal round, Barragan currently leads the USA South in points with 38 points on 16 goals, which ranks second in the conference, and six assists.

Watkins, a sophomore defender from Kannapolis, N.C., once again led the Pride defense in 2017. Watkins helped lead his team four shutouts, while tallying five goals.

In just his first season with the Pride, Briceno finished with nine goals, which ranked third on the team, while ranking second in assists with seven.

Mule, who was named to the All-Conference teams for the first time in his career, helped control the midfield for the Pride throughout the season and recorded six points on two goals and two assists.

Senior Jaime Payamps was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
