  1. Can someone tell me how a 2-9 team make in the playoffs…??? Just because the school is in the south park area in Charlotte doesn’t give them a free pass.

  2. I agree with Football Friday. I think they’re over thinking themselves in Raleigh. How do you get a 2 seed with 1 win, unbelievable. They say they’re using maxpreps rankings but that doesn’t even justify South Caldwell in this case. They are ranked 24th in the 4A rankings. Not a genius but I know that doesn’t translate to a 2 seed.

  3. Southeast Guilford vs Dudley in the first round!! I hope the players realize that beating Dudley is a step in the journey, not the destination. Good luck to those kids. Work hard this week to sharpen your swords Falcons.

The first time around each teams came away hurting so whoever wins may have more than just an opponent to deal with in round 2.

  4. Why didn’t everyone do all this bitching when they decided to go with split conference again this year. Once the playoffs get here is not the time to do it. The rules have been in place all year. Is it stupid absolutely but the HC’s should have been bitching when realignment happened. Stop the Split conferences stop the sub dividing. There should be 4 State Titles in the State of NC 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A. Then if they want to make a move make a 5A Conference. 64 4A teams making the playoffs is dumb! Ladies and Gentlemen I give you the everyone gets a trophy generation

  5. South Caldwell got the #2 Seed by winning the 4-A half of a split 4-A/3-A Conference….The part of that conference has some strength, but the 4-A part of that conference is weaker than dirty dishwater…

They need to throw this provision out the window with the dishwater and make sure this is a longer a stipulation that those split conference winners have to get in the playoffs….It is crazy and the NCHSAA has to see this or they are fixated on looking the other way…

Don’t know what type of protest it would take to get rid of this Split Conference allowance but they need to do something before the start of next year’s playoffs….

  6. A little news on Northern Guilford’s next opponent, D.H. Conley and their record-setting quarterback….

Senior quarterback Holton Ahlers of D.H. Conley (Greenville, N.C.) isn’t going to forget his last regular season high school football game.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound lefty completed 26-of-37 passes for 589 yards and nine touchdowns (tying a state record) while also rushing for 120 yards and two more scores, leading the Vikings to a 78-43 win over South Central (Winterville).

That’s a total of 709 yards and 11 touchdowns for the East Carolina commitment as D.H. Conley won its 10th straight game.

Ahlers is having a huge season for the Vikings (10-1), throwing for 3,190 yards and 52 touchdowns while rushing for 811 and 13 scores. He will look to add to his staggering totals beginning next week in North Carolina’s Class 3A state playoffs.

Ahlers has also starred in baseball and basketball and D.H. Conley. He committed to the East Carolina football program in January.

  7. Sports fan The NCHSAA is actually located in Chapel Hill.
This entire process is broken. The way it was done last year was fine and I have no answer as to why they thought it should be changed. Now the schools with a BYE loses money because they have a BYE the first round. I am surprised that the NCHSAA did this because they also lose money and their main purpose is to make money. They also need to throw out their section dealing with Sportsmanship because now one part of the seeding process has to do with how many points a team can score versus how many shutouts they can get. Now if a player is on the second and third team their playing time is diminished. I could write a book on the negatives of policies the NCHSAA has implemented. As you can see I am not a huge fan of theirs.

  8. Stupid Rules. The coaches have expressed their concerns about a lot of things over thee last decade but the problem is they have very little control over what the NCHSAA does. One fact is that this year a HC from the mountains was at the NCHSAA meeting in Chapel Hill when it was decided that the playoff format was going to be as it was last year. He left the meeting and later learned that they (NCHSAA Power That Be) decided to use the 20% – 30% -30% – 20% formula that lead to this mess we have this year. So, my point is that all the decisions are made by everyone else except the coaches. Go to their site and look up the board of director members to see who makes up this board. The coaches are not involved because they are not on the board of directors. The board is made up of principals, AD’s, etc. Therefore all the FB coaches can do is make recommendations which in my opinion are never considered. All these messes we now have were created by people who do not coach.

  10. I can’t beleive what I am seeing with the pairing. 3 win teams don’t make the playoffs….or should’nt. I agree with the other person, welcome to the everyone gets a trophy phase of high school athletics.

  11. Yeah, they did seem to mess a perfectly good system up, but that is life. I’ve seen GREAT situations completely wiped out for reasons that were a complete mystery. Either way, the system is what it is for this year and hopefully changes will be made going forward. Seems like the coaches feel a bit in this situation like parents do went it comes to team decisions……..I know, I know, I could have let that ride……..lol!!! 😉

That being said, I played little league in the 70’s and from what I remember everyone got a trophy, but we also had Most Valuable Player and special awards like that at well. I don’t see a problem with kids getting a trophy for showing up to practice, and putting in work. That in itself is an accomplishment at an age (12 and under) when all most kids want to do is have fun, not be yelled at by adults because they messed up on a play.
