Elon Volleyball’s Busa, Garcia Honored by CAA After 2-0 Weekend

ELON, N.C. – Elon University volleyball picked up two weekly awards from the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday, Nov. 6, as enior outside hitter Sydney Busa was named Offensive Player of the Week and freshman setter Kodi Garcia earned Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.

Busa had a strong offensive weekend with 37 kills and just 13 errors. The senior averaged 4.62 kills per set and finished the two matches with a .235 hitting percentage. Busa is up to 469 kills this season, putting her 11 behind Emily Hayes’ 480 in 2003 for the most in a season in Elon’s Division I history. The Leesburg, Va., native also has 1,312 kills in her career, putting her alone with the fifth-most in program history. With 24 digs on the weekend, Busa is now just one dig away from tying Chanelle Smith’s 1,096 from 2011-14 for the 10th-most in team history.

Garcia had another strong weekend setting up Elon’s hitters. The freshman averaged 10.12 assists per set, finishing with 81 for the weekend. Garcia also added 19 digs, two blocks and an ace. Against Hofstra on Friday, Nov. 3, the Tomball, Texas, native earned her 10th double-double of the season with 42 assists and 15 digs.

Elon will close the regular season this weekend with a Friday, Nov. 10, trip to College of Charleston and a Sunday, Nov. 12, trip to UNCW. First serve in Charleston is set for 3:30 p.m. Elon will battle UNCW in the regular-season finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.
