Ric Flair 30 for 30 ‘Nature Boy’ looked like WWE production instead of ESPN production and what is a “30 for 30”???

Watched it last night and the ESPN 30 for 30, ‘Nature Boy’, on Ric Flair looked to me to be more like a WWE production than a program produced by ESPN….Sort of made me feel like I was watching the WWE Network, which I have not caught yet….

Lots of Triple H/Paul Michael Levesque, Stephanie McMahon, Shawn Michaels, Mark Calaway/Undertaker, Jim Ross and on we could go, it made me think I was visiting a WWE library….Not sure if we saw any Vince McMahon clips, but they may have snuck him in there somewhere…

But it was a very good program and also called an ESPN 30 for 30….And just what is the ESPN 30 for 30 supposed to be??? Very good sports shows, but what is the premise for calling these spots 30 for 30’s?

Is a “30 for 30” designed to be 30 minutes long and it goes an hour and a-half, are they doing 30 of these shows over the next 30 months or years, are they looking for the 30 Top Sports-related shows of all time???

What is the 30 for 30 Series all about and has it been running for 30 weeks or 30 minutes in the past, or are we going to 30 of the best sports stories ever told on ESPN and now we might have to say on the ESPN/WWE Networks…

Again very good background info and I liked all of of the work that they showed with Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat….Steamboat came across as Ric Flair’s all-time top/favorite opponent and that to me, makes for good TV….Also like the work we saw with Ric Flair vs. Sting….Sting spoke of Ric Flair being gracious in the ring and Sting, to me, is a class act, all the way around….

Reid Flair, Ashley Flair, but not much on Ashley and Ric when they got into it with Ashley’s boyfriend, the Johnson guy, back in the bar in Chapel Hill, unless that part slipped past me….

Lots of Ric and Reid and quite a bit on Ric’s first wife and his daughter Megan and son David….David sure looked different and older with that dark hair and that beard….

There was a very good, if not great build-up for the Ric Flair 30 for 30, ‘Nature Boy’ and we learned that Ric has always made it a point of getting back to “nature” as often as possible….He sure has been a “Natural Man” many times over the years….On the airplanes, in the hotels, in the bars and Ric hit it pretty hard when he said and I pretty much close with his line here, “I was not home from 1972 until 1999”….

Ric Flair, not a great father, not a great husband, but for sure one heck of a story of wrestling, life, travel and near death, when you look back at his past, as we did last night…..

We did not have to say it when Ric got real sick, no RIP for Ric Flair yet, but today he is hoping to be more Richard Morgan Fliehr, than he is Ric Flair, “The Nature Boy”…..

Have not seen much feedback on the Ric Flair 30 for 30 and if you have some, share it with us here…Would like to hear what you have to say today, after seeing, ‘Nature Boy’, last night….

  1. Love Ric Flair. Used to watch him on Saturday at 5:00 on WITN Channel 7 little washington. Also WRAL channel 5 on Saturday night at 11:30. Flair was something else. I liked him better when he was NWA with Black Jack, Wahoo, Rufus R, Paul Jones, Greg Valentine, Klondike Bill, and Steamboat. That was the days. I did not like it much with WCW. Flair was king when it was NWA.

  2. NWA….the good old days with Ric Flair. I remember him knocking out Wahoo McDaniel to win the Mid Atlantic title at the Rocky Mount Ballpark. He used brass knuckles to beat Wahoo. he and Black Jack Mulligan were the ultimate team, as well as Greg Valentine.

  3. A litte research goas a long way…….

According to ESPN’s website: The original 30 for 30 film series (now referred to as Volume 1) was unveiled in October 2009 to commemorate ESPN’s 30th anniversary. From October 2009 to December 2010, 30 films were shown that detailed the issues, trends, athletes, teams, rivalries, games and events that transformed the sports landscape from 1979 (when ESPN started) to 2009, hence “30 for 30.”

  4. Good call….30th anniversary and 30 programs….Thanks for getting to us….30th Anniversary show and they just kept it going with the success that they had with it…

Again, good call and good work…
