ELON, N.C. – Redshirt junior goalkeeper Matthew Jegier of the Elon University men’s soccer team was selected to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men’s Soccer teams as announced by the organization Thursday afternoon, Nov. 9.

CoSIDA Release

Jegier was selected to the first team for District 3 for the second straight season after having a standout year both in the classroom and on the pitch. A business major with a 3.82 cumulative grade-point-average, the Charlotte, N.C., native led the CAA in the majority of the keeper categories this season including goals-against average (0.57), save percentage (.833), shutouts per match (0.56) and total shutouts (10). Jegier’s 10 clean sheets currently sits tied for third in the nation and he also became the program’s all-time career leader in shutouts with his 26th this season at Delaware on Oct. 28.

Jegier’s spot on district first team makes him eligible to be named to the Academic All-American squad, to be announced later this season. The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average above 3.3 and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.
