Elon Cross Country Concludes Season at NCAA Southeast Regionals

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Elon University men’s and women’s cross country programs concluded their season at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday morning, Nov. 10, on the course at Panorama Farms.

In the women’s 6K race, the Phoenix finished 15th overall with 419 points and was the second-highest finished team from the Colonial Athletic Association behind league champion James Madison, who was 12th with 323 points. Elon also finished ahead of notable schools such as South Carolina, Clemson and fellow league foe William & Mary. NC State repeated as the region champion with 68 points.

On the men’s side, Elon garnered a 28th team finish with 709 points. Nick Ciolkowski led the maroon and gold with his time of 30:34.2 – the second-fastest 10K performance in school history – and was 49th overall. Furman took the team title in the men’s race with 55 points – nearly two-times fewer than runner-up Virginia Tech, who had 109 points.

Women’s Recap
Senior Brigid Brennan was the top finisher for the Elon women as the Northport, N.Y., native was 56th in the 6K race and had a time of 21:52.9. Coralea Geraniotis was the next runner to cross the finish line for the Phoenix with her time of 22:17.6 in 81st while Melissa Anastasakis had a time of 22:19.2 and was 84th. Senior Corey Weiss was the fourth Phoenix runner to cross the line, finishing 88th and with her time of 22:23.3 while Chelsea Smith was the final scorer for Elon as she recorded a time of 22:37.3 and was 110th.

Men’s Recap
Ciolkowski’s time was just four seconds faster than his previous personal-record in the 10K, which he also set at the NCAA Southeast Regionals as a freshman in 2015. Sophomore Richie Kasper followed Ciolkowski with his time of 32:35.3 – breaking into the program’s top-10 performance list in the 10K – and was 148th overall. Michael Germinario was 163rd and a time of 32:48.2 while Colton Lawson was the fourth runner to cross the finish line for Elon with his time of 33:15.2 in 179th. Greg Paugh concluded the team scores for the Phoenix with his time of 34:06.6.
