ELON, N.C. – In this week’s release of the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major poll, Elon University women’s basketball moved up two spots to No. 8 in the rankings.

The Phoenix climbed the list thanks in part to season-opening victories and a pair of Top 10 teams – James Madison and Central Michigan – dropping out after losses. Elon is now the top-ranked CAA team after the Dukes’ fall from No. 6 to No. 10.

Northern Colorado was the other double-digit ranked team to jump up into a single-digit ranking, leaping from No. 13 to No. 6 with two road victories at DePaul and Denver. Northern Colorado is coached by Kamie Ethridge, a fellow USA Basketball assistant coach with Elon head coach Charlotte Smith each of the last two summers in South America and Europe.

The Phoenix will return to action Friday night, Nov. 17, for a 7 p.m. matchup against Hampton in Alumni Gym. The Lady Pirates entered the poll at No. 24 this week after missing out on the preseason edition. Hampton defeated North Carolina 70-66 in Chapel Hill, N.C., last Friday, Nov. 10, in its only game of the year thus far.
