Pride Women Top Mid-Atlantic Christian In Season Opener

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s basketball team defeated the Mustangs of Mid-Atlantic Christian University Thursday, 77-50.

After the two teams traded baskets in the first minute of action, the Pride used a 11-5 run to take a 13-7 lead before the Mustangs closed out the quarter with a run of their own to take a five-point lead into the second period. Kamerin Williams, Rasheika Gregory and Laprecious England each had three points during the Greensboro run.

Greensboro was then able to rebound from a sluggish end to the first period, battling back to tie the game at 25 with 3:42 remaining in the half.

A’Liyah Woods then gave Greensboro a 30-25 lead with five straight points.

The Mustangs tried to battle back but Greensboro was able to take a 33-31 lead into the break.

It was all Greensboro over the final 20 minutes of action as the Pride outscored the Mustangs 19-13 in the third period and 25-6 in the final period to secure the victory.

“I think our girls did really well tonight,” Head Coach Randy Tuggle said. “We took the opportunity to do things that we wanted to get done. I think we were pretty inconsistent, but overall we came away with the win and hopefully we learned something from it.”

Katie Lewis(Southeast Guilford High School) had a game-high 21 points for Greensboro, while Kamerin Williams finished with 13 points. Lauren Jenkins, who had seven points, led the Pride with six rebounds.
