Elon’s Busa Earns CoSIDA Volleyball Academic All-District Nod

ELON, N.C. – Elon University volleyball senior Sydney Busa was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 honoree Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16. The outside hitter has now been named to a pair of CoSIDA All-District 3 teams after being named to the squad in 2016.

Busa, who majors in Sport and Event Management, has a 3.93 GPA. As a sophomore and junior, she was named to the CAA’s All-Academic Team. One of two team captains this season, Busa has had a stellar final campaign with the Phoenix, leading the CAA in kills with 495 and points with 543 entering this week’s CAA Tournament. The Leesburg, Va., native became the fourth member of the 1,000-kill and 1,000-dig club on Nov. 5, and she is one of just two players to rank among the Top 10 for both career kills and career digs on Elon’s all-time list. Named to three of four possible All-Tournament teams during non-conference play, Busa was also named CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 6 after a pair of wins over Hofstra and Northeastern.

The senior is now eligible to earn Academic All-American honors. To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a player must compete in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests, must have reached at least sophomore athletic eligibility, have completed at least one full calendar year at the institution and carry at least a 3.30 GPA.

Elon will open its run in the CAA Tournament Thursday night, Nov. 16, with a 4 p.m. match against sixth-seeded James Madison. This year’s tournament is held in Harrisonburg, Va., after the Dukes won the 2016 CAA Tournament.
