Game Report on Southwest Guilford-High Point Central Boys Basketball with Cowboys’ Butler, Turner and Snipes all in double figures to help take down HPC

Southwest Guilford 70, High Point Central 59

The Cowboys hit the road to square off against former conference foe High Point Central.

The Bison had their season opener by hosting the Cowboys, and Southwest looked to bounce back after a tough loss Saturday night. The Cowboys looked to maintain their strangle hold on their city rival having won 13 straight matchups.

The Bison used their adrenaline and came out pumped and traded baskets and the lead with the Cowboys. The crowd loudly cheered on their Bison as they even got a 6 point lead at 17-11 with 1:35 to go. The Cowboys woke up and went on a 9-0 to close out the frame to lead 20-17.

The Bison went on their own run to open the second quarter to reclaim the lead 25-24 at the 6:00 mark. The ensuing possession for the Cowboys got the lead right back which was the spark to a 13-2 run to end the half with Southwest up 37-27.

The Cowboys kept the mojo going by scoring the first 10 points of the second half to make it 47-27 at the 5:09 mark. The rest of the frame was back and forth and the third quarter closed at 57-36.

The Bison came out and scrapped and clawed to make it chippy at the end. Central used runs and forced turnovers to get as close as 65-59 with 38 seconds to go. It the end the Cowboys made just enough plays to close it out at 70-59.

The Bison were led by Dhieu Abwok-Deing, with 19 . The Cowboys were paced by; JT Butler with 15 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds, Jay’den Turner with 12 points, and 5 rebounds. Jalen Snipes also hit double figures with 10 points and 4 rebounds. The Cowboys road trip continues on Thursday night to face off against rival Ragsdale.
