Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Ragsdale Boys Basketball:Cowboys call on Jayden Turner to lead and he leads the ‘Boys with 19 points

The Cowboys went over to Jamestown to square off against their long standing rivals of Ragsdale High School. These arch rivals are no longer conference opponents, but that doesn’t change anything.

The Cowboys wanted to keep an 11 game winning streak against these Tigers going, while Ragsdale wanted to stay unbeaten for this early season. After trading poor possessions the Cowboys got on the board first with a basket to take the early lead 2-0. Ragsdale responded with a made free-throw to make it 2-1. Southwest lead wire to wire and got up 10–2 with 1:05 left. But the Tigers closed the first quarter with a 5-0 spurt to make the low scoring emotional affair at 10-7.

The Cowboys opened the frame with a made three pointer to make 13-7, but the Tigers made one of their own. That was the running theme for the frame as they traded baskets throughout the entire stanza. The first half closed at 19-15.

The second half opened up with another Cowboys basket to go up 22-15. Southwest upped the pressure and tempo and forced several quick shots, turnovers and turned them into multiple baskets, and in a blink the lead was 42-16 at the close of the third quarter.

The final frame was more of the same Cowboys style as they continued to force the tempo that the Tigers just weren’t comfortable with. It was too much Southwest as they cruised out to a 60-40 win on the road.

The Tigers were led by Jaay Ford with 11 points. Southwest was led by Jay’den Turner with 19 points, 7 Rebounds, 4 Steals, and 2 Blocks. Southwest played a great team game and had great contributions from the whole roster.

Southwest next hosts Northwest on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm.
