East Forsyth began a three-game homestand this week with a thrilling 56-52 win over Parkland at Jack Musten Gym Tuesday night. The Eagles, now 3-0, rallied from first-half deficits of as many as 13 points as the visiting Mustangs (4-2) rebounded strongly from their 84-50 loss to East on their home floor a week ago.

Parkland was patient throughout the game, turning the ball over only eight times against East’s pressure defense, but the Eagles closed to within 2 points at the half. The teams were never more that four points apart (the margin of victory & East’s largest lead) throughout the second half, with the Eagles finally grabbing the lead at 52-51 on a twisting Shemar Watkins drive with 50 seconds left.

Watkins, the game’s leading scorer with 17 points, also blocked Parkland next shot in the lane, grabbed the rebound & threw a perfect strike to a streaking Savon Brintley for a layup to push the lead to 54-51 with 20 seconds remaining. Josh Mahaffey’s two free throws after the Mustangs’ final desperation three-point attempt sealed the win with seven seconds left.

Josh Wiley added nine points & added three assists to the balanced East attack, while Dom Jones had seven points & & joined Watkins with seven rebounds each for the Eagles, who had 14 total assists on 20 field goals including 18-22 inside the arc.

Freshman PG Josh Reid led the patient Mustangs with 14 points. East Forsyth hosts North Surry tomorrow night & Carver on Friday in Kernersville.
