HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team built a 19-point lead with 4:02 left in the third before Davidson stormed back with a 42-15 run to earn an 82-74 victory in the Millis Center on Monday night.

The Panthers (4-5) took a 59-40 lead behind a strong offensive outing from sophomore Camryn Brown. However, the Wildcats (4-7) wouldn’t give in chipping away and finally pulling ahead with 2:52 to play and never looked back.

“It’s a 40-minute game and we played 30 tonight,” head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. “It’s evident that we still have some maturing to do and I hope we saw that tonight. Davidson showed resiliency and grit that we never matched. This one is disheartening, but we’ll get back to work soon to prepare for Western Carolina.”

Brown entered the game averaging 5.0 points per game at home and 15.6 per road contest, but posted a Millis Center career high with 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Joining Brown in double figures, junior Emma Bockrath tallied 15 points while senior Kat Harris recorded 13 off the bench.

For the sixth straight game, redshirt-junior Kennedy Currie paced HPU on the glass with nine boards to go with six points. Bockrath, meanwhile, racked up seven boards, four assists and four steals – both team highs.

Justine Lyon led the Wildcats with 25 points with 20 of them coming in the final 14 minutes of action.

Davidson earned a slight edge on the glass (44-42) and committed four fewer turnovers (16-12). Likewise, the visitors also enjoyed a 45.2 to 40.3 edge in field goal percentage.

For just the second time this season, HPU was outshot from beyond the arc. The Wildcats went 6-22 (27.3 percent) while the Panthers hit 3-18 (16.7 percent). On the other hand, High Point shot 80.8 percent (21-26) from the line as Davidson converted just 10-21 (47.6 percent).

Despite seven early points from Bockrath, the Panthers found themselves down 21-14 with 1:19 left in the first quarter. However, Brown scored 11 points as High Point outscored the Wildcats 25-11 over the next 11 minutes to take a 39-32 lead into the break.

The Purple & White kept the momentum going into the third as a pair of free throws from Morgan at the 4:02 mark gave the home team a 59-40 advantage. But four minutes later, Davidson hit layup to close the quarter trailing by 12, 63-51.

Then the Wildcats exploded. They scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to get within striking distance and Lyon took it from there scoring 18 of the team’s final 22 to close out the 82-74 win.

The Panthers return to the Millis Center hardwood on Friday at 5:00 p.m. to take on Western Carolina in the final home non-conference game of the season.
