  2. So it is Ken and Ben are brothers and Brian is the cousin of Ken and Ben and I knew Brian, Ben, and Ken were connected, as in Kin and that is a good thing…Good to get that connection rolling and I always go through the whole Free Tree with Ken Free Sr., his brother who was Lazelle Free or somewhere in that neighborhood, then there was the younger Ken, and Ben and then Brian and Brian’s dad and don’t forget Lloyd Free, who became World B. Free, but he was from New York and migrated to Greensboro, to play basketball at Guilford College and when you look at the “Free Tree” there is basketball and baseball going from limb to limb of that “Free Tree”….

“Little Man Free”, which has always been Brian to me is a sight to see…Free can hit the three and he hits his “Free Throws”….

Smith update is coming and thanks for the ‘Free Time’ for me to sure share some “Free Info”…..

  3. Hey Andy, — Page girls 41, Hopewell 33. Emma Heard top scorer with 21.

Merry Christmas! Hope to see you at Haeco.

    Best,

  5. Andy Durham,

Something to add to the Free tree. Big Ken and Lazelle have a sister. One of her sons is the late Tony McKee. He is a former Dudley standout and Virginia Tech Hokie as well as Football coach at Smith High School at one point. He also was a free agent prospect for the Dallas Cowboys I believe. He has two brothers that were also excellent High School athletes and they both played sports on the college level as well I believe. The Free family has a strong sports history. Good luck to Brian in accomplishing his sports aspirations. He is a very bright, driven young man.

  6. Add Tony McKee to the “Free Family Tree” sounds good to me….

I interviewed him and talked to him many times over the years back in the day and one night he did commentary for me on a high school basketball game with Smith at Dudley….

A great man, Tony McKee, and he is missed….

  7. I heard that previous Dudley QB Hendon Hooker wore #2 this freshmen year in honor of the memory of Tony McKee who also wore that number at Virginia Tech. (Dudley family, Free family friend)
