  1. The talent gap between the public schools and gds boys is wider than its ever been – with no end in sight.
Something has to change – this tournament has become too predictable.
Short of opening the tournament to other schools- which I don’t think the sports council wants to do, I’m not sure what the answer is.

  2. But wait a minute all I heard from people in Greensboro was how Smith was going to run away with the title. Not only from Smith fans but People in the crowd and someone from the media said the GDS team was lacking depth and inside presence. Now GDS proved again that talent is not always the answer

  3. Hold on a second why would any one not predict the GDS team to win its 6th or 7th in row.

    1. They enter the game with the best coaching staff in Guilford County and maybe even the state of NC

    2. They play with in a system, Defense is part of the system. Newman and Graves are great players but ask college coaches there better on defensive end then they are offensively.

    3. Every January my friend calls me invites me to GDS to see Wesleyan and GDS and I leave saying the same thing. How does GDS do it.

    4. Freddy has beaten all the Dudley teams all the Wesleyan teams and anybody in Guilford County. He is a teacher a master mind with basketball knowledge all around him.

    5. If I had a kid who could play I would be headed to Lawndale Drive. That’s for sure.

    6. As for changing the tourney simply get better dethrone the champ.

  4. As a GDS fan, I agree with clinic Freddy surrounds himself with great basketball minds. Look at the history of Newman and Dillard. They have had to play some,of top players in basketball over the last 5 years. Not only play but guard man to man. Pretty elite players I would saay6. Here a few

    1. Ben Simmons (76ers in Dicks Natl Champ)
    2. Deangelo Russell (Nets Holiday Tourney)
    3. Jalek Felton (UNC Chick Fila)
    4. Theo Pinson (UNC Wesleyan)
    5. Harry Giles (Kings Wesleyan)
    6. Trevon Duvall (Duke Dicks Natl Champ)
    7. Devon Dotson (Kansas providence day)
    8. Shai Alexander (Kentucky, Hamilton Heights)
    9. Zion Williamson on Feb 8th ESPN 2
    10. All the top guards on AAU circuit as both played for
    CP3.

That’s a pretty good resume for them too. Ga Southern got a steal, and Clemson should be in trouble for armed robbery bc they came into NC and stole a NC player.
