GAME NOTES:
–Northwest Guilford and Grimsley faced off in the 7th place game of the HAECO Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. Both teams traded baskets during the 1st quarter that ended in a 1-point advantage for the Whirlies. Northwest was able to put together a few defensive stops en route to a 31-22 halftime lead. The 3rd quarter saw Northwest extend their lead to as many as 21 points as they shared the ball and kept Grimsley off of the offensive boards that saw the Vikings close the quarter with a 51-31 lead. The Whirlies’ pressure defense gave the Vikings some problems during the 4th quarter as the lead was cut to 8 points, but Northwest was able to hold off Grimsley with a couple of timely baskets and clutch free throws for a final score of 67-57.
–Tristan Perry led the Vikings with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Dean Reiber finished with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Christian Hampton contributed 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Johnny Pagano added 10 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals for Northwest.
–Grimsley was led by A. Flowers with 17 points while C. Allison and N. Cotton both added 8 points apiece for the Whirlies.
