College Women’s Basketball Final: Guilford 97, Salem 49

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lauren Ramsey scored a career and game-best 24 points as Guilford College defeated Salem College, 97-49, on Saturday afternoon. Ramsey was 9-13 shooting and made all five of her free throws.

The win was the eighth straight for the Quakers as they improved to 8-1 for the season. The Spirits dropped to 3-5.

Twelve of the 13 GC players scored in the contest. Guilford’s 97 points scored was the most since the Quakers tallied 98 on Nov. 17, 2006.

Other than Ramsey, three other Quakers scored in double figures. Miracle Walters (9-14 shooting) scored 18 points, and Jasmine McBride and Kendyl Medlin each added 10 points.

The home club led 26-16 after the first quarter. Guilford then outscored the Spirits 29-9 in the second period and held a 55-25 edge at halftime. GC’s biggest lead was 53 points (88-35) after Kendyl Medlin made a three-pointer with 7:19 remaining in the contest.

Guilford shot 52-percent (41-75) and held the Spirits to 20-percent (19-64) shooting. The Quakers led in rebounding, 66-20. GC had just 12 turnovers and forced 28 Salem miscues.

Tyler Davenport scored 11 points to lead Salem. She was 5-8 from the field and made one three-point basket.

The Quakers open 2018 with an Old Dominion Athletic Conference home game vs. Roanoke on Wednesday (1/3). The contest begins at 7:30 p.m.
