Game Report on Southwest Guilford-WS Parkland Boys Basketball:Road Uniforms can’t get it done at The Forsyth County Ranch as Mustangs ride home with Victory

The Cowboys hit the road tonight for a road conference matchup against the Mustangs of Southwest Guilford. The last time these teams met, they were both members of the Piedmont Triad 4A conference 5 seasons ago.

After GCS gave everyone the day off, the Cowboys looked to not lose the momentum from a convincing victory over Western Guilford on Wednesday night. The Mustangs are looking to end a 4 game skid. Could the Cowboys keep up the winning streak or would the Mustangs be able to rebound?

From the tip it was apparent that the Southwest away jerseys was about the only thing that showed up. The teams traded points till it was 3-3. The Mustangs took the lead at 6-3 at the 6:36 mark. From there the Mustangs took control by out working and out executing the visitors. Another quick 4-0 spurt by the Mustangs closed the ugly opening frame at 17-9.

The second quarter was another chapter but the same theme was present as the Mustangs pushed the margin to double digits and closed the opening half with Parkland up 31-20.

The third frame started with a Cowboys basket, but a 5-0 spurt got the Mustangs lead to 35-22 at the 6:22 mark. From there the Cowboys uniforms started to show some life. An 11-0 run sparked by defensive pressure got the away uniforms the lead at 36-35 at the 2:24 mark. The Mustangs got a made free throw to tie it up, and continued to control the frame to be up 42-38.

The visitors got a bucket to get as close as 42-40. Parkland kept the visiting teams at arms length the rest of the frame. Southwest got a few good looks that would have either tied the game or given them the lead in the last 2:35, but none of them found the bottom of the net.

Southwest drops a tight road one at 65-62. Parkland was led by Casey Wilkins with 18 points. Southwest was led by Christian Martin with (21, 9 Rebs, 3 Blks, 2 Asts, 2 Stls), Jayden Turner (15, 8 Rebs, 8 Stls), and Milli Huggins with (11, 4 Asts, 3 Stls, 3 Rebs).
