Blue Hens Stop Defending CAA Champion Elon, 80-66
Back in the day, it was the Page Pirates, with Bailey Kargo and Paris Kea and others, vs. Shay Burnett and her Southern Alamance Patriots, in some of the best games in Metro 4-A Conference girls basketball history and today, Bailey Kargo, the kid with the best follow-through on her shot by either a male or female in Guilford County basketball, well the Kargo kid carried the load, and her Delaware Blue Hens defeated a very good Elon team, with Shay Burnett(Southern Alamance HS), the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Player of the Year, with Kargo and her patented follow-through on her shot and she made them a lot, hitting for a Delaware Blue Hens’ team-high/career-high 21 points, along the way nailing 5-6 from three-point land….See more on Kargo below and she was today, the star of the show and for her, the word was GO and go win, with Guilford County still in her thoughts, as now her thoughts turn to DI wins, for the Delaware Blue Hens….
NEWARK, Del. – Delaware had four players with at least 14 points and reached 80 points in regulation for the second time this season in Friday afternoon’s 80-66 victory over reigning CAA champion Elon.
The win marked the first-ever for the Blue Hens (8-5, 1-1 CAA) over the Phoenix (9-4, 1-1 CAA) at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Sophomore Bailey Kargo(Page HS) led all scorers with a career-high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a mark of 5-for-6 from behind the 3-point arc, in 39 minutes of play.
Classmates Abby Gonzales (at right) and Samone DeFreese added 16 and 14 points, respectively. Gonzales also dished out eight assists to go along with four rebounds while DeFreese collected seven rebounds and three assists.
Junior Nicole Enabosi tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Hens.
Ra’Shika White guided Elon with 23 points and eight rebounds while Meme Garner posted 15 points and Shay Burnett, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year, logged 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.
