College Men’s Basketball Final – Guilford 73, Randolph 55

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior point guard Jarrod Rogers (Trinity, N.C./Archdale) scored 14 points and dished out six assists in Guilford College’s 73-55 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Randolph College Wednesday night. Classmate Trever Hyatt (Hickory, N.C./East Burke) added a season-high 13 points off the bench as the Quakers (7-7, 3-2 ODAC) won for the third time in four games.

Randolph (3-11, 0-5 ODAC) led for the first 10 minutes of the opening half, but Hyatt came off the bench firing to put Guilford in front. He made all four first-half shots, including two threes. His trifecta at the 8:18 mark triggered a 9-0 Guilford run that helped the Quakers to a 42-31 halftime lead.

The WildCats scored the second-half’s first two baskets and had the deficit down to 49-45 on a Ryan Fields bucket with 14:10 remaining. Guilford’s Hyatt answered with a traditional three-point play, which started a 9-2 spurt that restored an 11-point edge. The Quakers’ defense kicked in later in the half as the hosts held Randolph to one field goal in the game’s final 10 minutes. Guilford outscored Randolph, 14-4 in that time. The 55 points allowed mark the fewest allowed by the Quakers this year.

Guilford’s Carson Long (Pilot Mountain, N.C./East Surry) dropped in 13 points and collected seven rebounds. Marcus Curry (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford (Bridgewater)) chipped in eight of his 10 points in the second half and paced the Quakers with eight rebounds. Alston Thompson (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy) tallied nine points and rookie Will Leckonby (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) matched his personal best with eight.

Randolph’s Fields led all scorers with 15 points and also had a game-high 10 rebounds. Reid Jacoby (Richmond, Va./Benedictine) finished with 12 points and three assists. Sammy Hooper (Richmond, Va./Midlothian) scored 12 points and had three assists off the bench.
