Wrestling Drops Dual Against Ferrum Despite Strong Start

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College wrestling team fell to the Panthers of Ferrum College in Hanes Gymnasium Wednesday, 33-18.

Dylan Cook got the Pride on the board first with a bang by pinning his 125-lb opponent just over two minutes into the opening period.

Before scoring the six points for the Pride, Cook recorded a two-point takedown and two four-point near falls.

Following Cook’s win, Ferrum tallied a major decision victory to pull within two points at 6-4, but Zachary Rainess then tallied the Pride’s second fall victory over the evening at 141-lbs to extend the Greensboro lead out to 12-4.

However, the Panthers were able to score the dual’s next 29 points to secure the victory, despite a fall victory by Mykel Williams at 285-lbs.

“I was very pleased with our performance tonight as I think this is the first time that we wrestled up to our full potential all season,” Head Coach Erik Wince said. “Dylan (Cook) and Zachary (Rainess) picked up two big fall victories early for us, which got the match started off great.

“I really think our performance tonight will give us a lot of momentum heading into the Virginia Duals this weekend.”

The Pride will return to action when they open the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va. For more information on Greensboro College wrestling, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
