College Men’s Basketball Final: Bridgewater 67, Guilford 66

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Dimetri Chambers scored a game-best 17 points as Bridgewater College rallied for a 67-66 win at Guilford College on Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers fell to 7-8 and 3-3 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improved to 9-6, 3-3.

Guilford led most of the first half. However, BC went on a 12-2 run over the final 4:14 of the first half to knot the game at 38-38 at halftime.

The home club led most of the second half as well. Yet the Eagles regained the lead with 2:40 remaining after two free throws by Ken Stanciel and never trailed again.

Carson Long made a three-pointer with 1:05 left in the contest to push the score to 67-66. GC had three possessions to retake–including an off-balance shot by Long as time expired–but could not convert.

Long led the Quakers with 16 points. He was 6-10 and made four three-pointers in the game and had eight rebounds. Marcus Curry and Alston Thompson both added nine points for Guilford.

Chambers (7-14 shooting, three three-pointers) paced three Eagles who scored in double figures. Davrion Grier and Stanciel tallied 11 and 10 points respectively for the visitors.

Bridgewater shot 50-percent (25-50) for the game to Guilford’s 23-52 (44-percent). The Quakers led in rebounding, 35-26. BC had the edge in three-point baskets (10-7) and bench points (28-17).

The Quakers play at ODAC rival Roanoke on Wednesday (1/16). Game time is 7 p.m.
