Guilforrd Quaker Team Finished Competition at ETSU Track and Field Inviational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Guilford College track teams finished competing at the ETSU Invitational on Saturday. The Quakers were the lone NCAA Division III team competing in the predominantly Division I and Division II field.

The women’s 4x400M relay team of Chantell Cooper, A’lexus Newkirk, Kayla Scott and Cheyenne Wright clocked a time of 4:33.21, good enough for third in program history.

Newkirk earlier ran the seventh fastest 60M sprint in Guilford history after recording a time of 8.78. Scott posted a time of 8.84 in the same race.

Senior Sommer Fanney competed in the mile and continued her strong running, the holder of Guilford’s two fastest times in the race posted the fifth-best time on Saturday after clocking a 5:39.60. She placed 19th of the 54 competitors in the race.

On the men’s side, sophomore Juwan Houston posted the program’s fifth-fastest time 60M hurdle after running 8.86. Additionally, Houston ran the 200M in 23.30, good enough for 53rd place.

Freshman Kieran Arbury was the top of four Quakers competing in the mile. His time of 5:05.46 put him 48th in the field of 63.

The distance medley relay team of Caleb Anderson, Arbury, John Martinez and Colin Dossel closed the meet with the fifth fastest GC time (11:13.75) in the event.

The Quakers are back in action next Saturday (1/20) for the Wake Forest Invitational, held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
