Elon Phoenix Track Concludes Stay at VMI Keydet Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – A new personal-record for Katie Arbogast in the 400-meters and top-10 standings for a trio of athletes in the 800-meters highlighted the final day of the VMI Keydet Invitational for the Elon University women’s track and field team on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

RESULTS

Arbogast bested her previous personal-record in the 400-meters as the junior clocked a time of 58.47 in the race. She would finish sixth overall in the event as the top finisher for Elon.

In the 800-meter run, Chelsea Smith, newcomer Natacha Savioz and Emily Smith all garnered top-10 standings in the event. Chelsea Smith crossed the line fifth overall with her time of 2:17.47 followed by Savioz, who was sixth at her time of 2:17.99. Emily Smith edged into the top-10 with a time of 2:19.72 and ninth overall.

Emily Dixon was Elon’s best performer in the long jump with her leap of 17″ 1.50″ (5.22m) and was 16th overall. Skylar Barthelmes was 10th in the shot put with her heave of 39′ 2.50″ (11.95m).

Coralea Geraniotis was sixth overall in the 3,000-meters with her time of 10:17.49 as the Phoenix’s top runner in the race. The meet concluded with the maroon and gold’s 4×400-meter relay team running a 4:05.51 and finishing ninth.

Elon ended the meet ninth overall with 42 total points, just three points shy of fellow Colonial Athletic Association foe William & Mary. East Carolina won the meet with 130.5 points, nearly 32 points better than the runner-up, NC State, who ended with 99 points.

The Phoenix returns to action in the state of Virginia next weekend, traveling to the Liberty Kickoff on Jan. 26-27.
