Guilford Relay Teams Set Records at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Guilford College track and field teams competed on Saturday in the Wake Forest Invitational, held at the JPL Fast Track. The non-scoring event featured a mix of NCAA Division I, II and III teams.

The Quaker women’s 4x400M relay team set a new program benchmark after posting a time of 4:27.97. The quartet of Chantal Cooper, Kayla Scott, Cheyenne Wright and Kate Hernon-Reeves placed 12th of the 15 relay teams.

Wright continued her strong running. In the 400M she clocked a 1:07.36, which is the third fastest mark in Quaker history. She placed 43rd of 52 competitors.

Senior Sommer Fanney ran a personal best time of 11:19.64 in the 300M. The result is the second fastest in GC lore. Fanney placed 19th of 39 runners.

Freshman Carmen Curtis sprinted the 60M in 8.74. That finish was the sixth best GC time in the event and placed her 64th of 75 entrants.

On the men’s side, Jeremiah Hedrick set a GC triple jump record after a leap of 13.14 meters. He finished sixth of the 18 competitors.

Sophomore Juwan Houston posted a time of 8.77 in the 60M hurdles. He placed 16th of 48 runners and clocked the fourth best time in program history.

The Guilford 4x400M relay team closed the event with a new program record in the race. LeeShawn Joyner, Houston, Josephus Mitchell and Jeremiah Hedrick clocked a 3:26.56 and were 16th of the 20 teams in the race.

The Quakers next compete at the Finn Pincus Invitational on Saturday (1/27). The meet is hosted by Roanoke College.
