HIGH POINT, N.C. — The High Point University men’s basketball team (10-10, 5-4 Big South) opens up the second half of Big South play when it travels to Asheville, N.C., Saturday (Jan. 27) to take on the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville (13-9, 6-3). Tip-off at Kimmel Arena is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

PAW PRINTS
• Last time out, the Panthers fell at the buzzer in overtime to Radford, 78-76, on Wednesday night at the Millis Center. HPU made a defensive stop, but was unable to corral the rebound and on the ensuing possession, Carlik Jones hit an 18-foot jumper with no time remaining to give the Highlanders the win.
• Sophomore Jahaad Proctor recorded 28 points against Radford and has posted three-consecutive 20-plus point contests. He is second in the league in scoring with 17.8 points per game and also directs the offense with 3.3 assists per contest, which ranks fourth in the Big South.
• Before Wednesday’s loss, the Panthers were riding a three-game win streak after winning on the road at Longwood, 75-55, on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 21) in Farmville, Va. HPU shot 53.1 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from 3-point range. Before the win at Longwood, HPU was shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 32.1 percent behind the arc on the road this season.
• In the three game win streak, the Panthers held their opponents to 54.7 points per game and 37.7 percent shooting. High Point is shooting 48.9 percent from behind the arc and 51.0 percent from the floor overall. The Highlanders shot 48.3 points on the way to 75 points.
• Every Panther that played grabbed at least one rebound against Radford, the third time this season this has happened. The other two occurrences were against Toccoa Falls (Dec. 10) and Johnson & Wales (Dec. 1).
• Junior Andre Fox has 97 career 3-pointers and is four shy of cracking the top 10 in school history. Joe Knight (2001-03) is 10th with 101.
• The Panthers are shooing 39.2 percent from behind the arc this season, which is on pace to be the third-best mark in single-season school history. The 1987-88 squad that has the record shot 43.1 percent from 3-point range.

HISTORY vs. UNC ASHEVILLE
High Point trails in the all-time series against UNC Asheville with a 22-30 record in 52 meetings. The Bulldogs has won three in a row in the series before the Panthers won, 84-74, on Jan. 3 at the Millis Center. Andre Fox led all scorers with 27 points and six rebounds, while Jahaad Proctor added 23 points and four assists. Ricky Madison tallied 11 points and seven rebounds. The Bulldogs had a 7-0 second-half run that cut the Panther lead to five at 48-43 at 14:20 remaining, but the Panthers countered with a 10-2 run over the next four minutes. HPU extended the lead to 16 at 68-52 with 7:37 to go on a layup by Jordan Whitehead. The closest UNC Asheville would get is 73-62 with 3:08 remaining before High Point pushed the lead back to 17 ahead of the final minute.

A LOOK AT THE BULLDOGS (13-9, 6-3 BIG SOUTH)
UNC Asheville comes into the game having won five of their last six games, including 65-60 over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday night (Jan. 24). Ahmad Thomas leads the Bulldogs with 16.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while MaCio Teague is averaging 15.5 points per contest. Teague led UNC Asheville with 21 points against the Panthers in the first meeting.

HISTORY vs. IN-STATE OPPONENTS
High Point has complied a 333-278 (.545) record all-time against Division I programs hailing from the Tar Heel State. HPU’s most common opponents are Elon (86-76, .531), Appalachian State (60-36, .625) and Western Carolina (41-23, .641). The majority of those meetings came during the NAIA era. High Point is 82-77 (.516) against Big South programs from North Carolina and 251-201 (.555) against the rest of the state’s Div. I teams. HPU is 2-3 against Division I schools from North Carolina this season. The Panthers defeated Western Carolina and UNC Asheville, and fell to Charlotte, Gardner-Webb and Campbell.
