College Women’s Basketball Final: Guilford 60, W&L 44

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lauren Ramsey netted a game-high 17 points as Guilford College defeated Washington and Lee, 60-44, on Saturday. Ramsey was 7-10 shooting, collected seven rebounds and passed for five assists for GC.

A total of four Quakers recorded double digits in the contest. Miracle Walters contributed 16 points and was 8-13 from the field. Essence Abraham added 13 points and Julie Carini contributed 12 points on 6-7 shooting. Carini, a freshman, added 10 rebounds and posted her first career double-double.

Guilford improved to 13-4 and 7-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). W&L fell to 11-7 and 5-5 in league play.

Guilford led the entire first half before the Generals rallied to take their first lead (23-22) after a layup from Katie Popp with 3:24 left in the second quarter. Ramsey hit a jumper with time expiring and GC held a 30-28 lead at halftime.

The Quakers, however, scored the first 11 points of the second half and never looked back.

For the game, GC shot 45-percent (25-56) and held the visitors to 30-percent shooting (18-60). The home club won the battle of the boards, 39-34. Guilford a big edge in paint points, 42-26.

Popp had 11 points (5-13 shooting) and was the only Generals player to score in double figures. Taylor Casey added nine points for W&L. Washington and Lee led in bench points, 19-0.

Guilford, which dressed only eight players for the game, honored Head Coach Stephanie Flamini prior to tipoff for surpassing the milestone of 300 career wins.

The Quakers play at ODAC rival Lynchburg on Wednesday (1/31) at 7 p.m.
