GREENSBORO, N.C.-The Greensboro College women’s basketball team fell to the Falcons of Pfeiffer University Saturday, 64-60.

Shaniah Haynes opened up the contest with a layup to put the Pride up on the board, but Pfeiffer answered back a few minutes later by fueling a 17-7 run to take a 19-13 lead going into the second period.

Greensboro outscored the Falcons 17-14 in the second period, but went into the half trailing, 33-30.

After struggling for the first six minutes of the second half, the Pride offense ignited a 20-6 run that carried over into the final period of the contest.

Senior Domonique McCoy got the offensive rebound after a missed jumper from Shaniah Haynes and knocked down a basket to start the Greensboro run. Haynes went on to tally four points before Katie Lewis dropped 10 points for the Pride. A’Liyah Woods and Sabria Joseph recorded the remaining four points to help the Pride take a 54-53 lead with 5:06 left to play.

Despite Greensboro taking the lead, Pfeiffer’s offense came back to life and used an 11-6 run to win the game.

“It was a good game today,” Assistant Coach Johnny Richardson said. “One thing we’ve learned about this team is that there is no quit in them.

“We found out that we have some players that we can count on down the stretch. The future still looks very bright.”

Lewis finished with a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds, while Haynes and Lauren Jenkins had 10 points apiece. Woods logged nine points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

The Pride women will return to Hanes Gymnasium Sunday at 2 p.m. as they host the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University. For more information on Greensboro College women’s basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
