Elon Phoenix WLAX Opens 2018 Ranked No. 21 in IWLCA Poll

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women’s lacrosse will open the 2018 season – its fifth in program history – as the 21st-ranked team in the nation, according the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Coaches poll released Monday afternoon, Jan. 29.

The Phoenix closed its 2017 campaign ranked No. 19 in the IWLCA poll after going 13-7 with a trip to the CAA title game and the NCAA Tournament. This is the second preseason poll Elon is ranked in, as it also checked in at No. 20 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll in December.

Elon’s 15-game slate this season includes seven teams that are ranked among the Top 25 in the preseason IWLCA poll. Four of those teams – No. 3 North Carolina, No. 16 James Madison, No. 19 Towson and No. 23 Stanford – will visit Rudd Field during the 2018 campaign while Elon will travel to No. 14 Virginia, No. 15 Notre Dame and No. 20 Duke.

The Phoenix will open its season in less than two weeks when it travels to Duke on Sunday, Feb. 11, for a 1 p.m. game in Durham, N.C. The game starts a run of three in a row against teams ranked in the IWLCA poll with the Phoenix visiting Virginia on Feb. 17 and Notre Dame on Feb. 25.
