VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior guard Imani Watkins has been named the America East Player of the Week for the fourth time this year. In the process, she becomes the first player in Binghamton history to receive the conference’s weekly accolade four times in a single season.

Watkins averaged 27.0 points as the Bearcats won a pair of conference games last week. After finishing with 19 points against UMBC on Wednesday, she scored 35 points and recorded a career-high nine steals in Binghamton’s 54-52 win at New Hampshire on Saturday. Watkins’ final two points against the Wildcats came on the game-winning free throws with 0.6 seconds left in regulation.

For the season, Watkins ranks first in the America East and No. 11 in nation with 22.3 points per game. That is ahead of Binghamton’s single-season program record of 21.3 points per game, set by Bess Greenberg during the 1999-00 campaign. Watkins is also tied for first in the America East and ranks No. 28 in the nation with 2.8 steals per game.

Watkins now has 1,936 points for her career, which ranks second in Binghamton history and No. 12 in America East history. Greenberg holds the school record with 2,024 points from 1997-01.

With four weekly honors this season, Watkins surpasses Laine Kurpniece, who was named the Player of the Week three times for the Bearcats during the 2005-06 season. In addition, Watkins has now been named the America East Player of the Week a program-record five times during her career. That surpasses Rachel Laws, who was honored four times from 2002-06.

Binghamton (14-7, 5-3 AE) travels to Vermont for a Wednesday game at 7 p.m.

NOTES: Watkins’ previous Player of the Week awards came on Nov. 27, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 of this season as well as on Nov. 21, 2016. Earlier in her career, Watkins was named the America East Rookie of the Year three times during the 2014-15 season.
