College Football News – Guilford Announces 2018 Football Schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the Quakers’ schedule for the 2018 season Thursday.

Following a 5-5 (3-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)) season in which the Quakers met two NCAA Division I opponents, Guilford looks to bounce back in 2018. The 2017 squad set or tied 19 Guilford records and ended the season by winning three of its last four games. The Quakers are slated to return as many as 78 letter winners and 11 starters in 2018, including two-time All-America running back De’Eric Bell.

Guilford opens its 113th season at home against three-time defending USA South Athletic Conference Champion Huntingdon College September 1. The Quakers defeated the Hawks, 38-24, in the 2017 contest in Montgomery, Alabama. A home game under the lights with Methodist University follows September 8. The Quakers’ third non-conference game is at Division I-Football Championship Series (FCS)-member Davidson College September 15. The contest marks the final game of a two-year deal. The Wildcats won last year’s meeting, 42-21.

ODAC play begins September 29 with Bridgewater College visiting during Guilford’s Homecoming Weekend. Last year, Guilford went to Bridgewater and came out with a 49-23 victory.

For the first time since 2012 and only the second time since 1966, Guilford will host a Thursday night football game. The Quakers face Ferrum College, which joins the ODAC in 2018 after moving from the USA South. The game is October 11 at 7:00 p.m. on Guilford’s Appenzeller Field in the Armfield Athletic Center.

The final home game of the season and Senior Day is October 27 when Guilford welcomes defending league champion Washington and Lee University. The Quakers end the regular season on the road against league-rivals Shenandoah University and Emory & Henry College.
