CHAPEL HILL— Elissa Cunane of Northern Guilford High School and Joseph Becker of East Surry High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.
(Week of January 22-January 27, 2019)
Each week, two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations submitted by media and school administrators.
Cunane, a senior on the Nighthawks’s Women’s Basketball team, lead Northern Guilford to two huge conference wins last week. In the 71 – 24 win over Morehead, Cunane scored 22 points, had 16 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 assists and 6 steals. She was a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line. The next night, Northern Guilford defeated Eastern Alamance 67-26 and Cunane recorded a double-double with 31 points and 14 rebonds to go with her 5 blocks and 3 assists.
*****She also just scored a career-high 40 points vs. Person County, back on Tuesday night and Elissa Cunane is now the top scorer in Northern Guilford High School basketball history, male or female, she is now #1….*****
