College Women’s Basketball Final: Guilford 79, Bridgewater 74

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Miracle Walters scored 22 points and teammate Lauren Ramsey tallied 21 as the Guilford College women’s basketball team secured a 79-74 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory at Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon.

Walters was 9-12 shooting, collected five rebounds and four assists. Ramsey was 9-16 from the field, dished five assists and had four rebounds for the Quakers (14-5, 8-4 ODAC). Essence Abraham contributed 11 points and a team-best six rebounds for the visitors.

The game featured four lead changes and two ties. Kendyl Medlin (four points) converted two free throws with 2:18 left in the second quarter to give GC a 36-34. That score remained at halftime.

The Quakers biggest lead was 13 points (50-37) after Walters made a layup with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter. Bridgewater led 54-53 with 8:28 remaining in the contest. Guilford, however, then went on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes and never trailed again.

Briana Moore produced a game-best 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles (9-11, 5-7 ODAC). Rebecca Harvey and Jessalynn Monday contributed 21 and 15 points respectively for BC. Guilford shot 53-percent (29-55) in the contest to Bridgewater’s 42-percent (25-59).

BC led in rebounds (38-32), and three-pointers (8-3), but the Quakers had the edge in assists (19-12). GC had the better end of bench points (16-3) and points in the paint (36-24).

Guilford hosts Emory & Henry on Wednesday (2/7) at 7 p.m.
