Game Report on Southwest Guilford-WS Parkland Boys Basketball:Jayden Turner with 32 Points/12 Rebounds, and Christian Martin with 15 Points/10 Rebounds key cogs for SWG Cowboys

The Cowboys ended a full week at home as they hosted the Mustangs of Parkland. The Cowboys were looking to regroup after a frustrating loss on the road Wednesday night, and needed a win to stay in 3rd place in the Piedmont Triad 3A Conference.

The Cowboys wasted no time in setting the tone as they got a solid defensive stop and a bucket to lead early 2-0 just 32 seconds into the game. Parkland attempted to slow the game down to their style of play, but the Cowboys wouldn’t allow it and got up 5-0. Parkland got on the board with a three pointer to make it 5-3 at the 5:52 mark, but that was as close as it got for the rest of the night. A solid team defensive effort spurred a 13-0 run to push the score out to 18-3. The Mustangs were able to get another basket at the 1:01 mark cutting it to 18-5. The frame ended with the teams trading baskets and free throws and it closed at 22-9.

The second frame started with a small 6-2 spurt by the Cowboys which made it 28-11 at the 5:02 point. Southwest kept Parkland at that distance and twice got the margin out to 18, but a pair of free throws right before the horn cut the halftime mark to 40-24.

Southwest came out in the second half determined to finish this out. A strong 9-0 run to open the frame made it 49-24. The remainder of the frame was back and forth as the teams matched one another and the frame closed at 65-42 going into the final frame.

Another quarter opening run, this one 7-0, got the margin up to 72-42 by the 6:35 mark. The Cowboys were able to ride the momentum of solid team defense the whole night and they cruised to the 90-62 conference victory.

The Mustangs were led by Camien Shell and Casey Wilkens with 16 Points apiece. The Cowboys got a whole team effort on both sides of the ball. Southwest featured two players with strong Double-Doubles: Jayden Turner with 32 Points, and 12 Rebounds, and Christian Martin with 15 Points and 10 Rebounds.
