HPU Women Finishes Action at Darius Dixon Memorial
LYNCHBURG, Va. — The High Point University women’s track and field team finished action at the Darius Dixon Memorial Saturday (Feb. 3) at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va.

“It was good for the entire team to get a sense of rhythm of the building that we will compete for the conference championship on,” HPU head coach Mike Esposito said. “Our women had a pretty up-and-down day with a lot of good along with some struggles. Caroline (Baudinet) was solid in her collegiate mile debut and Keaton (Case) took a nice step forward in the 800. Our vaulters had a little bit of a struggle today, but it was good for them to get some experience on the runway that will be used at conference.”

In the mile, freshman Caroline Baudinet finished second in 4:58.19, while sophomore Zoe Geis was 11th in 5:15.18. Freshman Sydney Bagus placed 13th in 5:17.57 and junior Courtney Kerr was 20th in 5:27.81.

Zoe Geis also placed second in the 3,000 meters in 10:15.99, while Kerr was sixth in 10:33.14. Bagus placed 10th in 10:43.22 and sophomore Kylie Hennessey was 16th in 10:58.36.

In the pole vault, freshman Nathalie Elliott placed fourth after clearing a height of 3.80m (12-5.5). Junior Heather Keck was tied for 10th at a height of 3.35m (10-11.75).

Sophomore Kanajzae Brown placed sixth in the 60 meters in 7.77 and placed 15th in the 200 meters in 25.63.

In the 800 meters, junior Keaton Case finished sixth in 2:15.27.

Sophomore Ariel Wilbekin placed 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.03m (36-2.25) and was 17th in the long jump with a mark of 5.05m (16-7).

In the 500 meters, junior Emmy Geis placed 13th in 1:25.75. Senior Makenzi Holmes-DiGiovine was 16th in the shot put with a throw of 11.04m (36-2.75).

Up next, the Panther multi athletes will compete in the Queens University Combined Events on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 5-6) in Charlotte.

“It was good for the entire team to get a sense of rhythm of the building that we will compete for the conference championship on,” HPU head coach Mike Esposito said. “Alejandro (Juan Torres) ran really well in the mile and his training is setting himself up for a very special year.” Britton (Mann) had a season best in the shot put and as his health improves, so will the results. Our pole vaulters struggled for the first time this season, but I am confident they will use this and bounce back in a few weeks (at conference).”

In the mile, junior Alejandro Juan Torres was the runner-up in a time of 4:11.68, while freshman Siro Pina Cardona was seventh in 4:17.51.

Sophomore Jordan McClung placed in a tie for fifth in the pole vault after clearing a height of 4.60m (15-1). Junior Britton Mann was ninth in the shot put with a throw of 14.34m (47-0.75).

Freshman Gabriel Stainback finished 14th in the 60m hurdles in 8.85. Senior James House placed 16th in the 60 meters in 7.11 and 18th in the 200 meters in 22.61.

Sophomore Jake Dunn finished seventh in the 500 meters in 1:09.13. In the 1,000 meters, freshman Brendan McCabe placed eighth in 2:39.20, while junior Patrick Van Der Cruyssen was 10th in 2:45.04.

In the 800 meters, freshman Anthony Sasso placed 18th in 1:59.26.
