Track and Field Results: Guilford’s Fanney and Wright Set Program Records on Sunday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Guilford College indoor track and field teams competed on Sunday at the Vince Brown Invitational, hosted by Christopher Newport University.

Sommer Fanney set a new program record after posting a 5:27.86, breaking her own mark. She placed seventh of 33 competitors. Fanney also recorded the sixth fastest GC 800-meter clocking. Her time of 2:34.47 was 17th of 44 runners.

Cheyenne Wright broke the Quaker benchmark in the 200M. She was 19th of 52 competitors after running a 28.91 time. Wright also posted the second-best Quaker time in the 400M (1:06.98). Of the 31 runners, she was 15th.

On the men’s side, Juwan Houston recorded a time of 23:45 in the 200M. He was ninth of 51 entrants in the event. Dwayne Duncan leaped 12.20M in the triple jump. He was tenth in the finals. Asa Bell and Josephus Mitchell recorded identical 7.17 times in 60M semifinals.

In the mile, four of the 37 runners were Quakers. Kieran Arbury (4:55.95) was 20th and Caleb Anderson clocked a 4:56.59 and was 21st. Colin Dossel (5:04.36) and Etsu Fujita (5:28.33) placed 24th and 34th respectively.

The Quakers next compete at the UCS Invitational. The meet is at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Friday (2/15).
