Elon Women’s Tennis Suffers 6-1 Defeat at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Elon University women’s tennis suffered a 6-1 setback against Liberty on Friday, Feb. 9, at the Crosswhite Athletic Club. Alex Koniaev led the Phoenix with the team’s lone point in the match as she earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles against Evangeline Crist.

HIGHLIGHTS
The Flames (2-3) took the initial advantage in the match sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Maria Medina and Lara Soares clinched the point at No. 2 doubles with a 6-3 win over Olivia Lucas and Koniaev.

Liberty would clinch the victory in the early part of singles. After the Flames took a 3-0 lead with wins on courts one and four, Anna Dollar clinched the match, giving Liberty a 4-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Suzanne Zenoni at No. 3 singles. Erica Braschi battled Ashley Bongart at No. 2 singles in a third-set tiebreak, but fell 10-7.

Koniaev won Elon’s lone point in the match defeating Crist 6-2, 6-4 on court five to cut Liberty’s lead to 5-1, but Polina Miroshnichenko closed out the Flames’ victory with a 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 win over Montana Moore at No. 6 singles.
