WASHINGTON D.C. – The High Point University men’s lacrosse team fell 15-5 at Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon on Cooper Field.

The Hoyas (1-0) scored the first two goals before freshman Asher Nolting opened the scoring for the Panthers (0-2) to make it 2-1. However, Georgetown responded with an 8-0 run to lead 9-1 at the break before closing out the 15-5 victory.

“We made fundamental mistakes the entire game,” head coach Jon Torpey said. “Georgetown took advantage of every opportunity we gave them. We as a collective group have a lot to work to do in a very short timeline.”

Nolting finished the day with two goals and an assist to lead the Purple & White with three points for the second time this season. Rounding out the goal scoring, senior Connor Robinson added two goals while freshman Taylor Acra recorded his first career goal. Joining Nolting with an assist, sophomore Mitchel Snyder assisted on Robinson’s goal late in the fourth quarter.

Nolting tied senior Terrell Sands for the team lead with three ground balls apiece. Similarly, both Sands and Nolting were one of the six Panthers credited with a caused turnover on the afternoon.

At face-off, sophomore Davis Sampere went 9-of-15 attempts to set a new career high in face-off wins. Overall, the Panthers went 13-of-24 on the draws while the teams tied 29-29 in ground balls.

Sophomore Tim Troutner Jr. played the first three quarters in goal stopping six shots while senior Zach Tuell made three saves in the final frame.

The Hoyas started fast scoring twice in the first 90 seconds. Nolting put the Panthers on the board with a goal at the 12:33 mark of the first quarter to make it 2-1. However, Georgetown responded scoring seven unanswered goals to enter halftime up 9-1.

HPU pulled within seven as Acra and Nolting posted consecutive tallies to make it 10-3 with 6:12 remaining in the third. However, despite two late goals from Robinson, the Hoyas outscored the Panthers 5-2 the rest of the way to close out the win.
