HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University women’s basketball junior Emma Bockrath just missed a triple-double leading her team to a dominant 77-40 triumph over Winthrop on Tuesday night in the Millis Center.

The Panthers (15-9, 9-4) forced 28 turnovers and turned those into 34 points on the other end while limiting the Eagles (2-22, 1-12) to 29.4 percent shooting on the night.

“Tonight was a fun night because we got contributions from everyone on our roster,” head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. “It was good to play a good game at home because it’s been a long time since we played well here. We were able to give our fans something good to watch and that was a positive for us.”

On a night when she was honored pregame for eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career, Bockrath proved she was much more than just a scorer. The Dayton, Ohio product did post a game-high 23 points, but also grabbed 10 rebounds and a season-high eight steals. Her double-double was the fifth of the year and second straight for the junior.

Defensively, HPU limited Winthrop to five points in the first quarter and just 13 points in the first half, which were both the fewest marked allowed by the team this year.

Bockrath wasn’t the only Panther stuffing the statsheet as both sophomore Camryn Brown and junior Lindsey Edwards posted 11 points, five boards and five assists apiece. The five helpers were a career-high for Edwards.

Overall, the Panthers racked up 15 steals and assisted on 17 of their 30 made baskets while recording a 22-2 margin in fastbreak points.

Rounding out the five double-digit scorers, junior Shea Morgan notched 10 points and five rebounds while senior Kat Harris came off the bench to score 12 points and dish out four assists. Also in reserve, sophomore Olivia VanSlooten scored a career-high eight points.

Along with Bockrath’s 10 boards, redshirt-junior Kennedy Currie added eight as the team outrebounded Winthrop 43-34 on the night.

The Panthers defense got the team going early forcing nine turnovers, which turned into 10 points on the other end as HPU opened up a 20-5 lead. The five points were tied for the fewest allowed by the Panthers in a quarter this season.

High Point kept up the pressure scoring eight fastbreak points to extend the lead to 44-13. Bockrath racked up 15 points, six steals and five rebounds in the first 20 minutes as the 13 points were the lowest first-half total by an HPU foe this year.

Out of the break, the pace slowed as HPU won the third quarter 9-8. But the offenses broke out in the fourth as both teams shot over 55 percent in the frame as the Panthers closed out a 77-40 victory.

The Purple & White are back on the road on Saturday when they head to Gardner-Webb for a 2:00 p.m. tip in Boiling Springs.
