Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Mount Tabor Boys Basketball:Wilkins-lead(26 pts.) Spartans too much, as Cowboys fall on the road in the Semis, with Christian Martin leading SWG with 17 pts.

The Cowboys traveled over to the hosting Spartans of Mount Tabor for the Semi-finals of the Piedmont Triad 3A Conference Tournament. These two teams split in the regular season, with the Spartans winning on a pair of free-throws in the final second, and the second matchup was just Friday where the Cowboys came out on all cylinders and controlled the game from start to finish in a 64-48 win.

The Spartans regrouped well and dominated Western Guilford Monday night, and the Cowboys made quick work of the Dudley Panthers that same night.

The Cowboys jumped up early to go up 7-2, but that was the last positive note on the night. A Spartan timeout seemed to lull the Cowboys to sleep. From there the Spartans controlled the rest of the frame and it closed with the hosts up 13-11.

The second quarter was still in favor of the hosting Spartans as the Cowboys uniforms seemed to be sleepwalking. The pace of the game slowed tremendously and both teams struggled to find any rhythm. The Spartans slowly maintained control and the half closed with them up 30-27.

The second half was more of the same story. The Spartans were able to utilize their opponents lethargic and lackadaisical play into easy baskets and defense stops. The slow moving pace of the game allowed the hosts to go up 46-35 at the close of the frame.

The final quarter was no different as the Spartans kept total control over the game and pulled away to win 62-46. The Spartans were led by Isaiah Watkins with 26 points.

Southwest was led by Christian Martin with 17 points, and Jay’Den Turner with 12 points, 5 steals, and 5 rebounds.
