HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.-The Greensboro College men’s lacrosse team dropped their season opener to the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday, 16-2.

The Tigers scored the game’s first two goals before Greensboro cut into the deficit with a goal by Ryan Cole, off an assist by Kyle Dahlin.

Following the Pride goal, Hampden-Sydney tallied two more goals before Davis Miller scored Greensboro’s final goal of the game to pull to within two goals.

The Tigers then added one more goal in the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead into halftime before tallying 11 unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarters.

“The guys played hard in the first half and I thought our goalkeeping and defense kept us tight in the beginning of the game,” Head Coach Mike Foderaro said. “The third quarter really got away from us and we were not able to recover. We will get back to practice and make adjustments to get ready for our next game.”

Patrick Bell picked up a team-high four ground balls, while Cole, Spencer Kontoulas, Justin Matthews, Philip Gerber and Victor Mehrtens forced two turnovers each. Stephen Tanner made 16 saves in the loss.

The Pride men will return to action at 3 p.m. Saturday when they host the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College. For more information on Greensboro College men’s lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
