GREENSBORO, N.C – The Greensboro College softball team split their season opening series with Roanoke College Wednesday.

The Pride fell in Game 1, 4-0, before topping the Maroons in the nightcap, 2-1, in eight innings.

“I am proud of how our team competed today,” Head Coach Teresa Fister said. “We adjusted well on both sides of the plate and we have a lot to look forward to this season.”

Game 1
Roanoke College took a one-run lead into the bottom half of the fourth inning before Greensboro was able to tie the game.

Jasmine Worthy reached first base with a two out bunt single before easily coming all the way around to score on a long double to right field by Kaylee Johnson.

Despite tying the game, Greensboro was not able to overcome a Roanoke College attack that scored one run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Melissa Garcia and Cayleigh Norton had two hits each for Greensboro, while Allyson Loy, Worthy, Johnson and Taylor Little had one each. Cheyanne Cox took the loss despite tossing a complete game.

Game 2
Roanoke College took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the third inning before Greensboro used a two-out rally to tie the game.

Loy singled with one out in the inning before finding herself at second base, following a stolen base. After being advanced to third base on a Garcia groundout, Loy came across to score on a Regan Lockwood infield single.

After the two teams went scoreless for the next four innings, Greensboro was able to record the walk-off win with one run in the eighth inning.

Loy was placed on second base to start the inning before advancing over to third on a Garcia sacrifice bunt. Loy then came in to score the game-winning run on a Lockwood infield single.

Lockwood finished with a game-high two hits, while Norton, Hayley Tickle, and Lilly Baucom had one hit each. Maddy Wetherholt picked up the complete game victory.

The Pride will return to action Friday when they open play at the 2018 Piedmont Classic. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
