Three Former Pride Standouts To Be Inducted Into USA South Hall of Fame

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Three former Greensboro College standout student-athletes will be inducted into the USA South Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, the conference announced Wednesday.

Kevin Angle (Men’s Golf), Katie (Smith) Davis (Volleyball) and Kevin O’Connell (Men’s Golf) will join four other members in the class.

Angle was a two-time First Team All-American as a member of the Greensboro College men’s golf team (1996-1997, 2001-2002). He was the 1997 National Player of the Year and the 1996 National Freshman of the Year. Angle was a four-time All-Conference member, the 1997 League Tournament medalist and the 2002 Conference Player of the Year.

In the 2001 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament, Angle placed fourth individually. Finally, he currently holds the Greensboro program record for a single-round lowest score (64). Finally, in 2011, he was inducted into the Greensboro College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Davis was a two-time All-American and two-time Conference Player of the Year on the volleyball court for Greensboro College (2002-2005). She was a four-time All-League First Team performer, the 2002 Conference Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-South Region honoree. Davis led the Pride to two Conference Regular Season crowns and made the League All-Tournament Team three times. She currently holds the Conference records for block assists in a match and single-season.

In addition, she owns 15 Greensboro program marks in the statistical categories of attacks, kills and blocks. Off the court, Davis was a member of the Academic All-Conference Team and Greensboro AD Honor Roll as well as a two-time recipient of the College’s Fred Joseph Award. Finally, in 2012, she was inducted into the Greensboro College Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2014 was selected to the USA South’s 50th Anniversary Volleyball team.

O’Connell was a two-time All-American while on the Greensboro College men’s golf team (1998-2002). He was the 2000 NCAA Division III Individual National Champion as his team captured the program’s first Division III National Championship. O’Connell remains as the only Pride golfer to win an individual national title.

Additionally in 2000, he was named the Arnold Palmer National Division III Golfer of the Year. O’Connell was a three-time All-Conference member and a two-time Academic All-Conference honoree. He was named Mr. Ambassador of Team USA based on sportsmanship, leadership and diplomacy during the USA versus Japan Collegiate Golf Championship. O’Connell collected the 2001 Greensboro Fred Joseph Athletic Award, the 2002 USA South Male Don Scalf Award and was named a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-American Scholar in 2002. Off the course, O’Connell was Vice-President of Greensboro’s Student-Athlete Advisor Committee and an active member of College Golf Fellowship. Finally, in 2010, O’Connell was inducted into the Greensboro College Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2014 he was selected to the USA South’s 50th Anniversary Men’s Golf team.
