  1. @fan, it’s called defense and Eastern’s defense is what we should be talking about, Justin Matthews and Nic Cheeley locked him down

  2. Wow@ wildcat fan. 2 football players, must have ruffed him up. Has to be only way they stopped him. He is 2 good of player to be held in check by football players.

  3. @fan, lol, two great athletes committed to a game plan and the other guys doing their jobs gonna make for a long night, not hard to guess what “fan” means, those two guys are actually key contributors to a very good team.

  4. Just a great job on defense by Nic Cheeley and Justin Matthews from start to finish in the game vs. NG.

Andy Pack could hardly get going, Cheeley and Matthews defense held him in check and the defense on Holden Lewis from EG was equally as strong…

EG had a good game plan and it worked…NG is a very good team and they had a great season, but EG was the better team Saturday and the better team is moving on…

Let’s all get behind EG boys, Smith boys, NWG girls and NG girls…Time back your Guilford County brothers and sisters….

  5. Northern should have shot more free-throws if the plan was to rough him up. Hard for Northern to adjust when they have allowed one kid to do whatever he wants for the past few years.

Eastern did a great job and deserve it. Move on.

  6. CHEELEY AND MATTHEWS ARE NOT ONLY FOOTBALL PLAYERS BUT THESE DUDES ARE NICE ON THE COURT. THEY HAVE WON ON EVERY LEVEL. TEAM 1ST GUYS, NEXT YEAR IT WILL BE THERE TEAM. NAME A BACK COURT IN COUNTY OTHER THAN LANLEYS THAT WILL BE BETTER? LET GO WILDCATS!!!!!

  7. @other fan, don’t believe anyone said the plan was to rough anyone up but good hard nosed defense that has been proven to be effective last year as well, if the young man your referring to is from Eastern, then you will not find a kid that plays harder. Not to mention all the fouls that are not called as other teams try and stop him. The difference is he will still score in double figures because he doesn’t rely on one aspect. Give the young man the respect he deserves.

  8. I have had the opportunity from a no bias observation of Eastern Guilford and have watched every team play in the City this year.

In my observation, I have not seen any team that plays harder and is more discipline than Eastern Guilford. I watch the football players that are mentioned play back in December and reference that once they get their legs under them, that Eastern would be even more potent.

They played Grimsley at Grimsley that night and physically and mentally wore them down even though the game seem like it was close. Final 65-37. Saw them pay play Page earlier at Page and their key man Alston was in foul trouble and eventually fouled out. Game close until Eastern mentally and physically wore them down and walked away with a 67-53 win.

I saw them lose to Williams in Conference Championship and Williams played great. Eastern missed at least 20 free-throws in a 71-67 loss.

I watch them recently play Northern and what appeared to seem to be close game because Northern made a couple of runs. But eventually true to form, they wore Northern down and at one time I believe Northern was close to being 40 points in the hole.

Bottom Line this is a well coached, smart discipline team that plays well together and works hard and every player seem to know their role and they execute.
